More Powerful 2018 Mustang EcoBoost Makes Tire Smoke a Button-Press Away

Nothing puts a smile on your face like creating a big puffy cloud of tire smoke. It's the exhilarating feeling of being inside a powerful sports car, defying the friction of the road, hearing the roar of the engine and squeal of rubber, and—frankly—doing something you've only seen in movies.

Tire burnout is done by pro drag racers before every run to clean and heat up the tires, ensuring the best traction for their high-speed launches. To accomplish this consistently, most serious race cars have an electronic line-lock feature, which holds the brakes on the front axle, allowing the rear wheels to spin freely in place.

The upcoming 2018 Ford Mustang will also include electronic line-lock as a standard feature.

The current 2017 model's 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine outputs 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque, but the new 2018 Mustang EcoBoost promises even more heart-pumping power for an even more trackable pony. Now, even if you don't opt for the massive V8 engine, you can still get pro-motorsport quality tech.
